Advising

Q: Do I need to declare that I am on a pre-medical or pre-dental track?

A: No, there is no formal declaration or application process to be a pre-health student at UConn. If you are a new student or new to your pre-health journey, we do encourage you to first subscribe to our newsletter by completing this quick form or emailing our office at premed_predental@uconn.edu and ask to be added to our distribution list (please note that we can only add UConn email addresses). This is our main method of communicating valuable information about pre-health professional opportunities, events, and resources both on campus and off campus to interested students.

We also encourage you to follow us on Instagram! Find us @uconn_premed_predental

Q: How do I meet with an advisor from the Pre-Medical and Pre-Dental Advising Office?

A: To meet with an advisor from our office, please follow the steps listed on our Make an Appointment page. To learn about the advisors in our office, look at our Advisor Profiles page. When we are in-person, you are welcome to drop-in to our office at any time.

Q: Do I meet with the same advisor every time?

A: No, you will not necessarily meet with the same advisor every time. At the moment, we do not assign each pre-medical student a specific advisor (there is only one pre-dental advisor). Appointment requests are scheduled based on how your availability matches with the availability of our advising staff and meetings are done on a first-come, first-served basis.

If you would like to maintain a relationship with a specific advisor, you are welcome to establish that relationship with them as the both of you see fit.

Q: Are there any information sessions about being a pre-medical or pre-dental student I can attend?

A: Yes! Each semester we hold a number of group advising sessions for people who are new to our office or new to the pre-health world. We ask that you attend or view a recording of one of these sessions before requesting an individual appointment with one of our advisors.

Q: Are there any workshops I can watch to help me with the application process?

A: Yes! Each application cycle we hold a range of workshops to aide our applicants throughout the process. Recordings of our most recent workshops can all be found on our website here.

Q: Can I connect with a peer advisor?

A: Yes! Our office now has four peer advisors that joined us beginning Fall 2021. We invite you to view their profiles on our website here.

Q: Can I connect with any UConn alumni?

A: Yes! Our office is in the process of growing our alumni network and allowing current undergraduate students the opportunity to connect with alumni that have successfully matriculated to medical or dental school. Check our website here and our newsletter regularly for updated information about these offerings.

You are also welcome to watch recordings of events from our Alumni Series, posted on our website here.
