Lindsey Jones

2024-2025 Health Professions Peer Ambassador

My name is Lindsey Jones (she/her/hers), and I am a first-generation junior majoring in Physiology and Neurobiology, with a double minor in Human Development & Family Sciences and Molecular and Cell Biology! I am a part of the Honors Program as a STEM Scholar, and am pursuing a pre-medical path. I am involved in various on-campus initiatives and activities within my roles on the Executive Board of Gamma Phi Beta sorority, as a Senior Resident Assistant for the Residential Life department, and member of the First Generation society, Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society, and Emergency Medicine Club. In addition to my on-campus involvement, I work part-time during the year as a Medical Assistant at a primary care pediatrics office, serve as an Undergraduate Research Assistant for the UConn School of Medicine, and volunteer both in my local community as a tutor, as well as in collaboration with UConn Health as an undergraduate Health Leader. Outside of my extracurriculars and courses, I am an avid runner (I ran a marathon last year!), and enjoy baking, spending time with friends/family, and going to the gym.

In my pursuit of medicine, my pre-eminent passion is delving into the realm of social disparities and the significance of health literacy. In clinical, shadowing, and volunteering experiences, I have first-hand experience in witnessing the impacts of social and educational injustice on patients and their families. It is therefore my main object to ensure that every prospective patient and healthcare provider has access to the education and resources necessary to receive and facilitate adequate patient care. If you ever have any questions or interest regarding this topic, don't hesitate to reach out!

I am super excited to be one of your HPPAs this year! I tend to gravitate towards any opportunity to teach or mentor students, as I recognize the significant impact it can have on their confidence and success (as a first-generation student, mentorship has been critical to me!), and I love to connect with new people. I hope to educate students on pre-health processes, how to discover helpful resources, and how to navigate the delicate balance that is pre-professional life. It is my goal in this position to leave students feeling empowered, confident, and excited to pursue their goals, ultimately to contribute towards a more positive and supportive pre-health community.

I would love to connect with you about...

  • how to find/obtain clinical experience pertaining to your specific interests
  • pursuing research initiatives, volunteer experiences, and shadowing opportunities
  • tips and methods for success in pre-medical courses
  • how to curate a well-diversified portfolio for higher education applications
  • how to prioritize self-care and establish an effective work-life balance
  • how to get involved in initiatives regarding social injustice in healthcare and health literacy projects
