What were some meaningful extracurricular activities that you were involved in while at UConn?

I participated in summer research experiences at Yale and my current medical school. These gave me experiences that helped me get my lab position at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) post-graduation. I also volunteered with hospice patients which was very eye-opening and showed me how much simple conversation can have on someones life.

What were some challenges you have faced along your healthcare journey so far, and how have you overcome them?

I learned how to become more resilient during the COVID pandemic. My board exams were cancelled multiple times and my 3rd year clerkships were pushed back and shortened. I learned how to succeed with the time I had and overall did well.

What did you do during your growth year(s) and what did you learn?

I worked at Massachusetts General Hospital as a lab manager/research assistant from 2016–2018. The lab focused on the benefit of exercise on the brain, cognitive function, and neurodegenerative disease.

What advice do you have for aspiring pre-health students?

I would focus on community experiences related to advocacy and helping underserved communities. Many students focus on grades and clinical experiences (which are obviously important), but there are many other non-medicine opportunities where groups could directly benefit from your help.

What’s something that you wish you knew when you were in college?

Taking multiple gap years is fine! I almost applied right away but ended up applying one year later and I'm glad I did. I would try and apply once and make it a strong application.
