Emily Strickland

2023-2024 Health Professions Peer Ambassador

My name is Emily Strickland (she/her/hers), a senior Molecular & Cell Biology and Nutritional Sciences major in the Honors program. I am also a part of UConn’s Master in Public Health Fastrack 4+1 program, which I started last year. On campus I am the Co-President of Kidney Disease Screening and Awareness Program (KDSAP) where we organize and run free kidney health screenings for the local community. I also do research in Dr. Jill Wegrzyn’s computational genomics lab and have been working on the genome assembly of endangered plant species to aid future conservation efforts.

Outside of academics, I am a part of the club swim team at UConn and nutrition club. I also love being in nature, traveling, and cooking + baking! Coming back from a semester abroad last spring, I have learned a lot about facing change and uncomfort, things that all students will encounter during their studies. As a HPPA, I hope that I will be able to help others navigate school and extracurriculars, offer advice in both academic and non academic areas, and learn from other students!

I would love to connect with you about...

  • Research opportunities
  • Public health and/or nutrition
  • Studying abroad
  • Balancing academics and extracurriculars
