2024-2025 Senior Health Professions Peer Ambassador
My name is Ty Zaccagnini (he/him/his), I grew up in Watertown, Connecticut, and graduated as Watertown High School's class of 2021 salutatorian. I'm a senior, in the Honors Program, majoring in Physiology and Neurobiology, with minors in Neuroscience and Molecular & Cell Biology. I love science and learning about all of the complexities that lie within the human body!
I'm a Senior Health Professions Peer Ambassador in the Pre-Medical & Pre-Dental Advising Office, and I also work as a Student Medical Support Trainee at UConn's Student Health and Wellness. I love discovering new things, and am currently involved in Dr. Geoffrey Tanner's nutrition/diet and neurological disease research laboratory. I'm currently on a pre-med track, which has given me the wonderful opportunity to shadow different doctors in various specialties, as well as work with the University of Connecticut Health Leaders program, founded to bridge health care disparities by addressing various social determinants of health. Outside of the classroom I enjoy going to the gym, and volunteering as a camp counselor at Camp Kesem!
I'm very passionate about teaching, and I've been able to gain experience in it through being a First Year Experience Mentor at UConn. I want to be able to provide aid to undergraduate students interested in healthcare, and promote a more welcoming environment in the pre-health community!
I would love to connect with you about...
- finding different research opportunities on campus that fit your needs!
- anything involved with learning and different studying techniques that have worked for me.
- finding a comfortable work-life balance and remaining happy/healthy throughout your journey!
- feeling, in any way, doubtful about whether or not you were meant to pursue healthcare.
