Jasmine Decossard

2025-2026 Health Professions Peer Advisor

My name is Jasmine Decossard (she/her/hers), and I am a senior majoring in Physiology and Neurobiology with two minors in Neuroscience and Writing. I am currently on the pre-med track, and I am also interested in pursuing a career in poetry and continuing to travel to volunteer.

On campus, I work as a SHAW Substance Misuse Peer Health Educator, student event staff with SUBOG, and I am one of your Health Professions Peer Advisors this year! For leadership, I am Program Director for Project HOPE, a Community Outreach program serving the Willimantic shelter, and I lead the Bridge to Guanin alternative break trip that takes pre-health students to the Dominican Republic to volunteer! I focus on health equity and access as a BOLD Women’s Leadership Scholar and a UConn Health Leader! I also conduct EEG research at the Brain Imaging Research Core and serve as the USA Guanin Board Fundraising Manager, while working towards becoming an ER technician!

For fun, I love to write poetry and songs, try new sweet treats, online shop, go on runs/walks, and spend time with my friends!

My passion for medicine stems from my interest in combining science and service, specifically in addressing health inequities in housing insecurity nationwide and internationally. As a part of the 7th cohort of the BOLD, I was able to receive funding to travel to the Dominican Republic and create a documentary highlighting the geographical barriers to accessing maternal healthcare in a rural community. Whether supporting guests at the Project HOPE shelter in Willimantic, or volunteering in clinics abroad, I am focused on developing tactics that make healthcare more accessible and culturally aware!

I know firsthand how overwhelming the pre-health journey can feel in a new environment, and I’m excited to support other students who may not know where to start.

I would love to connect with you about...

  • engaging in service and leadership that combine medicine and social impact, particularly surrounding housing insecurity or women’s healthcare
  • deciding whether to take a gap year or not
  • pursuing research opportunities outside of UConn and expanding your network
  • balancing academics, extracurriculars, and self-care after a challenging semester
  • finding your passions outside of healthcare and incorporating them into your academic plan
  • Sigma Theta Alpha! I’m in a healthcare fraternity on campus 🙂
