Matt Mauriello

2026-2027 Health Professions Peer Advisor

Hi everyone! My name is Matt Mauriello (he/him/his), and I’m a sophomore majoring in Physiology and Neurobiology with a minor in Italian Literary and Cultural Studies. I’m on the pre-med track and am drawn to medicine because of how constantly it evolves. There is always something new to learn, and I love the idea of pursuing a career that combines lifelong learning with making a meaningful difference in people’s lives.

On campus, I stay involved through service, leadership, and healthcare-related activities. I serve as the Fundraising Chair for the UConn Neurodegenerative Disorders Society and volunteer at the Holy Family Homeless Shelter in Willimantic, where I spend time with families and their children and help create a welcoming and supportive environment. I’m also involved with Honors Across State Borders, which gave me the opportunity last spring to travel to Clarkesville, Georgia, and help build a Habitat for Humanity home.

This past summer, I earned my EMT certification, and I’m excited to continue learning about medicine through EMS and gain more hands-on experience caring for patients. In the future, I hope to continue working with children and eventually pursue a career as a pediatric oncologist.

Outside of academics and volunteering, I love to travel, run, go to concerts, cook, hang out with friends, and spend as much time as possible at the beach!

I remember how overwhelming navigating the pre-health path could feel as a first-year student. Between classes, extracurriculars, volunteering, clinical experiences, and everything else, it can feel like you’re supposed to have everything figured out right away. I’m excited to help make that transition a little easier for other students, whether that means answering questions, sharing what I’ve learned, helping someone find resources, or simply being someone they can talk to. I’m looking forward to meeting everyone and helping create a welcoming and supportive pre-health community!

I would love to connect with you about...

  • Gaining meaningful service experience
  • Finding clubs/co-curriculars that interest you
  • Exploring different paths towards gaining clinical experience
  • Sustaining a rigorous pre-health track and campus commitments while keeping time for self-care
