Akshitha Chaganti

2025-2026 Senior Health Professions Peer Advisor

My name is Akshitha Chaganti (she/her/hers) and I am a senior majoring in Molecular and Cell Biology with a minor in Physiology and Neurobiology. I am on the pre-medical track, in the Honors program.

On campus, I am involved in Dr. Srinivasan’s research lab in the Kinesiology department, where I have contributed to multiple projects, and received grant funding through the Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) to support my work. I love teaching and mentoring, so I have found fulfillment in applying those interests in my roles as a BIOL 1107 tutor at UConn, and as a TIPS Mentor where I support international students in their transition to college life in America. My passion lies in bridging gaps in health disparities and contributing to a healthcare system that prioritizes accessibility and equity. Through my volunteer work with the UConn Health Leaders program, I am actively engaged in bridging these gaps, ensuring that underserved populations receive the care and support they deserve. I also serve as the co-president of the Telugu Student Association (TSA) at UConn through which I take pride in sharing and showcasing my culture and identity.

Outside of academics, I love listening to music and writing about it through the Her Campus UConn chapter. I enjoy discovering new cafes (my current favorite is Yemerica in West Hartford). I like running and weightlifting as it provides me with a way to clear my mind and refocus my energy.

As a senior HPPA this year, I am thrilled to continue supporting students as they navigate the challenges of the pre-health track, answer questions about academics or extracurriculars, and provide guidance to help them feel confident in their path. Whether you are looking for advice, resources, or just someone to talk to about your journey, do not hesitate to stop by and say hi! 🙂

I would love to connect with you about…

  • Time Management & Staying Organized: How to organize your assignments, plan for exams so studying does not feel overwhelming, and how to balance your classes, extracurriculars/work, and social life.
  • Figuring out your timing: Everyone’s pre-health journey is different and there is no single “correct” path. I am happy to help you figure out your application timeline and discuss what experiences, courses, and opportunities will best support your goals.
  • Volunteering/Shadowing/Research Experiences: I can share opportunities that I have been part of which may inspire you to pursue similar interests and help you find experiences tailored to your interests.
  • Music: I love song suggestions and finding new artists so if you have recommendations, feel free to share!
