Allopathic Medical (MD) Schools

According to AAMC data from the 2020 Application Cycle, the acceptance rate for applicants to allopathic medical school was about 42%. For the 2019 Application Cycle, this percentage was slightly less at 41%. Each cycle there are just under 52,000 applicants to MD schools, with slightly more than 21,000 acceptances and 20,000 enrollees. Note that for the 2021 Application Cycle, there was about a 15% increase in applications to MD schools with just over 60,000 applications processed.

  • The average GPA for applicants to MD schools in the 2020 cycle was a 3.61
  • The average GPA for enrollees to MD schools in the 2020 cycle was a 3.73
  • The average MCAT score in the 2020 cycle was a 508

Osteopathic Medical (DO) Schools

According to AACOM data from the 2019 Application Cycle, the rate of applicants that enrolled in osteopathic medical school was about 40%. For the 2018 Application Cycle, this percentage was slightly less at 38%. For the past five cycles there have been around 20,000 - 21,000 applicants to DO schools, with enrollments gradually increasing from around 7,000 to now over 8,000.

  • The average GPA for applicants to DO schools in the 2019 cycle was a 3.48
  • The average MCAT score in the 2019 cycle was a 503

Dental Schools

According to ADEA data from the 2019 Application Cycle, the rate of applicants that enrolled in dental school was about 56%. For the 2018 Application Cycle, this percentage was slightly less at 54.5%. For the past five cycles there have been around 11,000 - 12,000 applicants to dental schools, with around 6000 enrollees each cycle.

  • The average GPA for applicants to dental schools in the 2019 cycle was a 3.42
  • The average GPA for enrollees to dental schools in the 2019 cycle was a 3.57
  • The average DAT AA score for applicants in the 2019 cycle was a 19.6
  • The average DAT AA score for enrollees in the 2019 cycle was a 20.7
