Combined Program in Dental Medicine and Combined Program in Medicine Class of 2012

We are looking forward to welcoming the new class of Combined Program in Dental Medicine and Combined Program in Medicine students matriculating with the entering class of 2012 at the main campus.  The combined programs in medicine and dental medicine were established in 2000-2001 as a joint enterprise involving the Office of Enrollment Management, Undergraduate Admissions, the Honors Program, and the Schools of Medicine and Dental Medicine in Farmington.

The program attracts some of the most gifted, talented, and health professions oriented students in the State and nation. Students accepted and matriculated in the program as undergraduates are provided an assurance of admission to the respective professional school provided that all requirements and expectations are met during the student undergraduate experience. Students typically complete a full four year undergraduate degree and then move directly into their professional degree program.

The vast majority of students admitted in the first several cohorts (2001-2008) have now completed and moved on to professional school training. Some of the early cohort students have completed their professional school degree programs, have completed their residency programs, and are now in either fellowship or clinical practice positions. The typical student that entered as a CPiM undergraduate in 2001 completed the undergraduate degree in 2005, completed the medical degree in 2009, and will complete residency in 2013.

The typical student that entered as a CPiDM undergraduate in 2002 completed the undergraduate degree in 2006, completed dental school in 2010, completed a one-year dental residency in 2011, and is now in practice or further residency or fellowship training.  One of the core goals of the program has been to recruit some of the best and brightest to attend our flagship State University and to secure their enrollment in our State Professional School Programs. The vast majority of students have indeed gone on to enroll at our Flagship Professional Schools, yielding a win-win for the undergraduate and professional school linkage we envisioned from the start.

We offer this new group of Combined Program students a warm welcome. We are delighted that these students have selected the University of Connecticut, and we look forward to helping you meet your goals and ambitions. Congratulations to each of you!

We look forward to your involvement and leadership in our University family.
